Guide
Rigging with a pen tablet
Ayatsuri2D works with a pen tablet like a paint program: the pen drives every tool, and its pressure drives the Deform Brush, Brush Selection, the glue weight brush and the mesh eraser, through a pressure curve you set. It works with Wacom, XP-Pen, Huion and other tablets, with nothing to install.
What the pen is good for
- Sculpting keyforms with the Deform Brush: a light stroke nudges, a firm one pushes.
- Painting selections of points with soft edges, for shaping hair and cloth.
- Painting glue weights so two meshes hold together where you press.
- Erasing points in Mesh Edit at the width your pressure gives.
Setting it up
Plug in the tablet and open Settings > Appearance > Pen tablet. Press on the tablet and the meter shows what Ayatsuri2D reads. Choose whether pressure sets strength, size or both, shape the pressure curve, and set the lightest touch. Pen tablets has every setting.
Systems
Windows 10 and later and Linux, on Wayland or X11. On Wayland the pen comes through the tablet protocol, as in Krita, so clicks and drags work even where a compositor drops a pen's clicks. Pressure is in for macOS but not yet tested on a real tablet.
Questions
Does Ayatsuri2D support pen pressure?
Yes. Pen pressure drives the Deform Brush, Brush Selection, the glue weight brush and the mesh eraser, with a pressure curve, a lightest-touch floor and a test meter.
Which tablets work?
Wacom, XP-Pen, Huion and other tablets that report pressure to the system. Nothing extra needs installing.
Does the pen work on Linux?
Yes, on Wayland and X11. If Settings says it found the tablet but cannot read it, join the input group (sudo usermod -aG input $USER) and log in again.
