Clipping masks

A clipped mesh only shows where its mask mesh has art: the iris inside the eye white, a blush inside the face.

From the clipped mesh

Select the mesh that should be clipped. In Properties > Clip by:

  • the current masks show as chips; click one to remove it
  • Pick on canvas, then click the mask mesh (Shift+click for several, Esc ends)
  • + lists every mesh, with a search box and ArtPaths first
  • Invert mask shows the mesh only outside its masks

From an ArtPath

Select the ArtPath with the ArtPath tool, press Clip meshes with this path, then click meshes on the canvas: each one now shows only inside the path. Click one again to take it off, Alt+click (or tick Inverted) to clip it inverted, Esc to finish. Meshes it already clips are outlined.

The first time a path becomes a mask it switches to Mask only: it still clips, but its own fill and stroke stop drawing.

Masks clip by their shape and art, not their opacity, so a mask at 0% opacity still clips. That's also how Cubism runtimes do it.

Inverting is per clipped mesh, as in Cubism: it applies to all of that mesh's masks.
