Timelapse

Every step of building a model is recorded beside it: each edit, undo and redo. Play it back to watch the rig come together, or export it as a GIF or video.

Recording

While a model is open, each step goes into <model>.aom.timelapse next to the model file. Only what changed is stored, compressed, so a small edit costs a few kilobytes. A new model keeps its steps in memory until its first save. Turn recording off in Settings > General > Record timelapse.

Playing it back

Window > Timelapse… shows the steps with a scrubber, Play and a speed slider.

Exporting

Pick an Export width and press Export. Next to the model you get:

  • <name>-timelapse/ with every frame as a PNG (transparent background)
  • <name>-timelapse.gif, looping, up to 480 px wide
  • <name>-timelapse.mp4, when ffmpeg is installed

Long histories are thinned to about 600 frames, and the finished model holds for two seconds at the end. Export runs in the background with a progress bar.

The timelapse uses the model's current art: re-imported textures show on every step.
