Mesh editing

Mesh Edit

A mesh decides how a layer bends: the more points where it bends, the smoother it moves.

Enter Mesh Edit with Ctrl+E on a selected mesh, or pick the Edit Mesh tool and click a mesh. Everything else dims; the mesh shows on top. Done (or Esc) keeps the changes, Cancel puts it back.

Automatic mesh

Ctrl+Shift+A or Automatic mesh in Tool Details traces the art's outline and fills it with points.

Preset For
Standard most parts
Deform parts that bend a lot (hair, cloth)
Light parts that barely move

Outline spacing, inner spacing and margin fine-tune it.

By hand

  • Add points by clicking; Connect automatically joins them into triangles as you go.
  • Auto connect (Ctrl+R) rebuilds the triangles from the points.
  • Add, delete, connect and cut edges.
  • The erase brush removes points it sweeps: hold B and drag, or press [ and ], to size it.
  • 4-division and Reset start over from a grid or the original quad.

Points slide over the texture instead of stretching it, so the art stays still while you edit.

Lasso, copy and paste

The Lasso picks points (Shift adds). Ctrl+C copies them with the faces between them; Ctrl+V pastes them into the mesh being edited at the same canvas spots. Points landing on existing ones merge, which lines two meshes up for glue. Delete removes picked points.

ArtPath meshes aren't mesh-edited: their triangles come from the path. Mesh Edit hands over to the ArtPath tool.
