Importing art

A new model from a PSD

File > Open (or drop the file) with a .psd or .kra:

  • every folder becomes a part, every layer a mesh (a simple quad to start with)
  • layers are packed into texture pages
  • clipping layers become clipping masks
  • the model takes the document's canvas size

Adding art to a model

File > Import PSD… adds a document's folders and layers to the model you have open, as new parts and meshes on new texture pages. Names, animations, expressions and parameter folders stay; one undo takes the import back out. A model with no art yet takes the file's canvas; otherwise layers line up from the top-left.

Re-importing an updated PSD

Changed the art after rigging? File > Re-import PSD… swaps the new pixels into the meshes you already have. Each layer finds its mesh by folder and name, the mesh and its rig stay exactly as they are, and one undo puts the old art back.

  • Layers with no matching mesh, and meshes whose layer is gone, are listed afterwards.
  • Texture pages no mesh uses any more are dropped, so re-importing doesn't pile up pages.

Keep folder and layer names stable in your art file: that's how re-import matches them.
